Hi all,

It looks like my computer skills have been diluted by too much salt water and good Moroccon food. I am sure I wrote a group email about a week ago but it seems it did not get sent thought I have the text of what I wrote. So for an up to date record of about a week ago reqd below then I will add some more for now.

<1 week ago>
Surfing is good. I am now much better than when I was in Portugal. We surf most days then I eat and read and then fall asleep though the falling asleep bit is getting less as I get fitter. Surfing is so much hard work but so much fun. Yesterdqy I paddled out 20 min to a break called killer point so called because of the killer whales spotted there sometimes. It was so peaceful out there. Not many waves came through but I caught three really good rides of about 60 to 80 meters in length. The water was full of fish and every time a wave rose up ypu could see the fish swimming just as if they are in a fish tank.

I have met many nice people to go surfing with and the people out on the water are always so friendly. The food is good and cheap so I eat a lot. However there is not much else to do in town when the sun goes down except chat and drink mint tea of which I am becoming somewhat of an addict.

Since then I have improved my surfing greatly. For those who know the area I surfed out at anchor point with an Aussie guy called Dean who is from Perth. A big swell was just coming in and there were about thirty people in the water along a narrow take off zone. Never having been in surf that big and with so many people it was intimidating and very exciting. Some of the waves were coming in at double overhead faces. I managed to get myself three decent rides. The most exciting part is the take off where the wave picks you up and then you make the drop down the face. Generally it all ends with me being tumbled over and over as if in a great front loading wash tub however even that can be fun as long as you relax and learn to hold your breath.

At the moment I have taken a break from surfing and am in Essaouira. Just my luck I have come down the a nasty strep throat though thank ... that you can go to a chemist and self prescribe good quality antibiotics here, an action not possible in the UK or Aus ( for good reason too ). I also must thank the help of my very good friend Hanane who went out on the town and found me food and medicine when I was in a delirious state unable to eat and shivering with cold.

Oh and by the way Merry Christmas to those who celbrate it.

Feeling better today and we will be heqding to Marrakesh hopefully this afternoon and then on to Quarzazat. Will get back to Taghazout eventlually and do some more surfing before heading on back to Australia.

Cia
